An occlusal analysis of TM disorder patients with occlusal interferences

Abstract
The occlusal conditions were analyzed in 35 TM disorder patients with occlusal interferences who had visited TMJ clinic in the Dental Department of Pusan National University Hospital.
The obtained results were as follows:
1) The number of patients with complete dentition were more than that of those with partial loss of posterior teeth.
2) There was no significant difference in the number between the patients v ith restoration and those without.
3) Although the coincidence of restoration site with occlusal interference site was comparatively low, the incidence of occlusal interferences according to the type of restoration was greater in crown or bridge than in amalgam or inlay.
4) The most frequent type of occlusal interferences was balancing side interference followed by CO-CR, protrusive and working side interference in order.
5) Without any significant difference between maxilla and mandible, or right and left, interfering occlusal contacts occurred most frequently in 2nd molars followed by 1st molars, 3rd molars, 1st premolars and 2nd premolars.
6) The occlusal interference side exhibited significant coincidence with the symptom side.
7) All of the patients with myocentric interference showed also clinical interferences.
